Overview

LinkTiles is a Chrome extension for organizing bookmarks into spaces and projects. This policy explains how LinkTiles handles your data — whether you use a LinkTiles cloud account or the local-only storage available to earlier installs.

How LinkTiles stores your data

Cloud account (new users). LinkTiles offers a Google account that syncs your bookmarks across devices and backs them up. New users sign in with Google to get started, and their content is stored in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore), operated by Google Cloud on our behalf.

Local storage (existing installs). If you installed LinkTiles before it introduced accounts, your existing spaces, projects, tiles, notes, and settings remain stored locally on your device in your browser's built-in storage (IndexedDB) — nothing is sent to our servers. You can choose to sign in and sync that data to the cloud; until you do, it stays local on your device.

What is stored in the cloud (only if you sign in)

• Your content: spaces, projects, tiles (saved links — title, URL, icon), notes, dates, and tags.
• Account information: the email address, name, and profile photo from the Google account you sign in with, plus a unique account identifier — used to authenticate you and associate your data with your account.

We do not collect anything beyond what is needed to provide and sync your bookmarks. There is no advertising, profiling, or selling of your data.

What LinkTiles Accesses

• Bookmarks: With your permission, LinkTiles can read your Chrome bookmarks to import them.
• Tabs: With your permission, LinkTiles reads tab information so you can save open pages and display their site icons. This uses an optional “tabs” permission you choose to grant — the tab you're actively using is available without it.
• Local storage / IndexedDB: LinkTiles stores your data locally on your device (as your primary storage in local mode, and as a local cache/backup in cloud mode).
• Google sign-in: LinkTiles uses your Google account to authenticate you and enable cloud storage (via Firebase Authentication). New accounts sign in to get started; earlier local installs can sign in optionally to migrate to the cloud.

External Requests

To show site icons for your saved links, LinkTiles loads favicon images from:

• Google's favicon service (google.com/s2/favicons) — used to look up an icon for a link you save by URL.
• The website itself — when a saved item already carries the site's own icon URL (for example, links saved from an open browser tab), that icon may load directly from the site.

These requests include only the site's domain or icon URL needed to display the icon, and are never used for analytics, advertising, or tracking. In cloud mode, LinkTiles also communicates with Google Firebase to store and sync your data.

Analytics & Tracking

LinkTiles includes no analytics, telemetry, or tracking code. We do not collect usage statistics or any information about how you use the extension.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your data or share it with third parties for their own purposes. In cloud mode, your data is stored with Google (Firebase / Google Cloud) acting as our service provider to host and sync it on your behalf. Favicon requests go to Google's favicon service, and to the sites themselves, as described above.

Data Export & Deletion

You can export your LinkTiles data at any time using the built-in export feature; exported files are saved to your device. If you use cloud sync, you can also delete your account and its cloud data from within the extension, which permanently removes your data from our servers.
